Recently, I’ve been taking a multicultural class…
As an international student, I thought I didn’t have to take classes like this…
However, I still learnt a lot… and gained very valuable knowledge…which made me to think… we as human beings… sometimes are pretty pathetic…
There is a lot of inequality in the world, especially towards minority group members who don’t live in their native countries…
Sadly, most of the inequality comes from politics…
Some… come from power struggle…
And some… simply because a specific group is afraid and unknown to another group…
These inequality tends to effect everybody who lives on this planet… (regardless of people who holds the power… or people who are the minority)
Conflicts between races… struggles between socioeconomic classes…gender differences… etc…
Take 911 as an example, there are many people who dislike the ways the US treats the world… so they thought the US brought the disaster upon itself…
But……… honestly… No one has the right to take another person’s life…
There are also people who discriminate against Arab Americans because they are afraid of them…
But……… the truth is… all countries have people who are more extreme… but that doesn’t mean everybody in that population is like that…
But………. Does that mean… if a person had shampoo in the eyes… he/she is never going to shower again?!
So… I heard something really depressing today…
On one of the planes that crashed on 9/11/2001… there were four people who bravely gave up their lives in order for the plane to not kill that many people…
One of the four people, was gay… but… after he unselfishly gave his life up…
What he got.. was the other three people were praised like heroes… but because of his sexual orientation, he wasn’t mentioned…
I’m not saying that the other three people didn’t deserve to be praised… but I think… they should be equally honored because of their courage. And… people can’t deny his contribution on the bases of his sexual orientation…
On that note… I deep hope that people, even when in disagreeing situations, don’t assume that all people in that group are the same…
And don’t discriminate against others… and what others believe in…
Everybody should have the right to be respected and be themselves.
