Mother Nature is never wrong.
Our world might end, but the world will not.
Throughout history there were constant negotiations between what Mother Nature was willing to provide and what we wanted
from her. If the human species were too greedy or too smart, there were natural disasters to put us in our place. Human populations were kept in balance either by wars, famines or natural disasters.
In times past, people could always move somewhere when they stripped off all local resources and/or displaced some
aboriginals from their land. But with the technological advances and population
growth in the last three hundred years, mass migration has become more difficult.
Witness the ‘discovery’ of the New World. The Europeans hit a big bonanza when
they displaced the local populations from North and South America and built a
new economy there, which helped to relieve the pressure on the Old World. But this was one in a lifetime bonus that is
not going to recur.
So, is our world going to end? I don’t think so. Are we going to have lower economic growth and a reduced standard of
living, at least in the developed world? You bet.
Is global warming really happening as a result of our lifestyle both in the developed and developing worlds as the
scientists claim? I really don’t know. But what I know is if all the poor
people in China and India, probably in the billions, are going to enjoy the same standard of living as the
West, then Mother Nature is probably going to react very badly.
But who is going to tell them they can’t have what the white man have been enjoying for the past hundred years? Is the
West willing to accept a sacrifice in their standard of living in order to save
the planet, and if so, by how much? How much sacrifice is the developing world
willing to accept?
If history is any guide, the human species had the habit of beggaring thy neighbours rather than mutual co-operation. This
is one of those instances where democracies may not always have the upper hand
in tackling these difficult issues. If people of the world can actually come
together to tackle these issues with the spirit of mutual survival, then it is
really the dawn of a new age.
So don’t say we are saving the planet. We are actually saving our collective ass.

Re: The totalities of "global warming"
Very well said Anthony.
I cannot agree with you more that tackling
the issue of Global Warming is just one facet of what we should be doing
to save us- the human race from being forced to extinction from this planet.
Some people are trying to use the big
word of " Democracy" to achieve their ulterior motive. Let
us be realistic and willing to face the fact that we cannot win
and try to achieve everything by hoisting the banner of "Democracy"
which will just become meaningless.
This World of ours can continue to run on mutual respect, mutual understanding as well as mutual co-operation
from all nations concerned. The Willingness of doing so has to be
initiated from within, not just based on financial or material benefits.
Lets hope that the outcome of the Copenhagen Summit will act as a catalyst to generate a brand new attitude of how the
order of working should be between the Developed and the Developing
countries , by keeping a better and more sensible balance between economic gain and morality.
Good Luck to the World and to us all !!

The girl who silenced the world for 5 minutes
I have come across the following link, why don't we check it
out? Some of us may have watched it, if you have, watch it again to
see if we may see the so-called "climate change" in a renewed
perspective?
If we have not, please watch it, to listen attentively and to ponder on what this
little girl is saying and if she is making any sense out of this "madness"
we have helped to create?

What do you think?

Re: The totalities of "global warming"
Hi All
I haven’t been paying too much attention to
this global warming issue nor have much knowledge on this subject.
After giving it a thought lately, it has been a very complex issue.
One of the solid proofs is the icebergs have been melting slowly and
perhaps the weather has been erratic in the recent years. It took
decades to reach what it is today and it would take perhaps even longer
time to reverse the situation should the scientists are correct. Can we
image how arduous it is to reach an agreement between only 2 or 3
countries?
To my opinion reaching a mutual goal is virtually impossible
in the mean time as there are over 190 countries involved. I have a
lot of respect to those who try to help out with this subject
particularly this young and courageous girl who tries to inspire the
world leaders to act now by putting their differences aside. However,
all these could still remain in vain regardless of their efforts.
Human being will unite and act on one front if the earth is facing
disaster tomorrow or humanity faces immediate treat. So long there is
still time left countries would try to insist on their views and still
be cynical.
Good luck.

Re: The totalities of "global warming"
Hi all,
Honestly, I am quite pessimistic about this global warming issue. All the
hot discussions/debate will gradually die down after the Copenhagen meetings are
finished. I doubt very much the agreements, if signed, will be implemented.
Haven't we seen and learned from the Kyoto agreements signed a decade ago? I
truly believe everyone, whether politicians, scientists, businessmen,
environment activists....., all want to resolve this problem faced by the whole
world.
However, human beings are selfish. We or majority of us will
act and do something good when there are no conditions or interests imposed on
us. Unfortunately, if something that we do or decisions that we made may hurt
our interests, I think the outcome will be very different. Being a Canadian who
live in Alberta of which the economy depends critically on the oil derived from
the tar sand/oil sand (commonly called dirty oil), I am confused
myself, so are many Albertans in this province. Imposing severe CO2
reduction conditions will definitely and seriously hurt the industry, if not
killing it, resulting thousands of job losses. This is just one example that I
have personal encountered with in this issue, imagine the complexity
and interests existed among all the countries.
Anyway, my respect goes to all those who try to help resolving the global
warming problem. Their efforts, like the little girl in youtube, will at least
constantly remind all of us how this earth will become if we don't do something.
My two cents words.
Thanks
Gary
Re: The totalities of "global warming"
Do not despair, do not give up, do not be helpless,...we must stop relaying on the governments, politicians, academic or scientists to make it happen...
We must take it in our own hands, we must make the change from within, and to start doing our own little
bit, then the change will happen and the world will change with us...Like the little girl, may her message reach high and far, and run like wild fire!
We all know it is more than a case of "climate change", it deals with the way how we exploit this planet we called Earth, it also talks about the way how we treat each other, and the way how we treat other 30 million species who roam and share this Land...yes how selfish and destructive humans could be?
Perhaps we will all start here and now, by doing our bit?

Re: The totalities of "global warming"
We should all conserve and treasure all resourses whether there is global warming or not.
