Right-mindedness is the Keystone to a Sweet Home

“Building the most habitable world” has always been our principle goal. In order to reach this goal, how we treat our
world, that is to say, how we maintain natural ecological balance, is one of three necessary conditions that must be met. “We have only one earth” is also an awareness we have always been trying to raise. The great flood of August 8 has proved that our fore-warnings are true. It is not surprising that natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes in fact depict that the earth is a dangerous place and that nothing on earth is permanent. However no sooner do the general public rush to the aid and relief at the rise of this flood than the mass media and government officials declare verbal war of blame on each other. Little do they know that the occurrence of a natural calamity can either lead to human conflicts or conscientious caring among humankind.

A natural calamity is a misfortune that tests whether or not humanity will fall. If a disaster becomes an instrument of blame and conflicts, humanity will definitely fall and self destruct; if it brings about conscientious mutual aid, there will be long lasting fortune among people. It is only then that a natural calamity will not be a nightmare anymore because we stand united and go through the hard times together.

For this reason, this Sanghadana of the Huayen call upon everyone to have “Right-mindedness,”-- for only right-mindedness is the keystone to the sweet home. Calamities are nothing but specific manifestations of impermanence that operates everywhere. To those who have lost their lives we express our deepest grief and condolences; to those who have been injured and hurt we give our support and care without reservation. At this moment, no one on this land can afford to feel lucky or has the right to be pessimistic or even blame anyone. For at this point when we are about to rebuild our homes and establish our spiritual well-being, we need to expense huge among of time and energy, and so we cannot afford to be waste any mind power and time. We need to utilize every moment available to us to work for disaster relief. This is the right attitude and is what we called “right-mindedness.”

My dear friends, at this hour of hardship, we not only gather here in memory of our loved ones to pray for their blessings and salvation, but also set ourselves in the right mind for the benefit of building a sweet home and a bright tomorrow for us all. Let us work hand in hand, heart in heart, diligently to build a sweet home for us all tomorrow!

—— 正心，是美好家園的礎石

「構建最適合人居的世界」是我們一貫的主張，其中三要件之一就是「器世間」——自然生態之平衡，這也是我們一再強調的「我們只有一個地球」；這次八八世紀
大水災，即証明了我們的預言！水災、地震等自然災害，確實是國土危脆、世間無常的寫照，本不足奇；然以天災才一發生，社會群眾正發起救災之際，輿論與官員
卻興起了口水戰。實不知——「天災起時，將是人類鬥爭的導火線，或是悲天愍人的良知時刻？」 

天災是不幸的，天災在考驗人類的沈淪與否！若是天災成為鬥爭的工具，人類只有沈淪與毀滅；若是天災是在考驗人類的良知與互助的悲愍心，則人類的幸福將是永遠的，天災也將不再是可怕的夢魘。因為，我們將緊緊地團結在一起，共渡難關！ 

因此，本大會再次呼籲「正心」——正心，是構建美好家園的基礎！災難不過是無常顯現的具體事相而已，無常本是
無所不在的！對於災難中死難的朋友，我們給于絕對的哀悼，受傷的朋友給于絕對的關懷；在這塊土地上的每個人，都沒有僥倖的心態，沒有悲觀的權力，沒有抱怨
與牢騷的心境。因為面對家園重建、心靈建設，我們需要龐大的時間與精力，因此不能浪費心力，不浪費光陰，我們是在與老天爺爭時間，這才是救災的正確心態，
也就是「正心」！

各位朋友！在這艱難的時刻裡，除了緬懷親人為其福薦之外，更要端正我們的心態，為美好的家園、為美好的明日盡心力，讓我們手牽手、心牽心，為共建明日的美好家園而努力吧！
