Dear All:
Kristen Caparan, the daughter of Erin Lu - the past president of
Huayen Buddhist Community of North America, has been diagnosed to have
her leukemia (cancer) reoccurred again.
The doctors found out this
reoccurrence on Monday, Dec 17, 2007, and Kristen needed to start Chemotherapy on
Thursday, Dec 20. She has to do 4 rounds
of Chemo. The first round she needs to be hospitalized for 2 days, the second
round she has to be hospitalized for 4 days, etc. After the 4 rounds, about 6 months later she
needs to do stem Cell Transfusion which will involve different degrees of
risks. If she does not do all the above
she has 4-6 months of living. If she
does the Stem Cell Transfusion she has 70% of chance of complete recovery.
In order to show our appreciation, support and caring for Erin, to help her to
go through this difficult time, HYBC-NA invite all of you to join in on the
participation of our second Group Circumscribed Practice, and dedicate the
merits to the well being and speedy recovery of Kristen’s health.
Circumscribed Practice in
Chinese is “結” (jieˊ) and “界” (jieˋ). The first word “結” (jieˊ) means to bind, or join, or form, while the second
word “界” (jieˋ) indicate a boundary, scope, or range. The term thus means that each
practitioner vows to complete a certain amount of specified practice in a
certain amount of time and at a designated place. That is, each individual
takes the particular practice that he or she has chosen to cultivate, and
coordinates it with time, space, and willpower in an effort to generate maximum
benefits. This method of practice is advocated by the Huayen Monastery and is
proven to have bona fide results.
This Practice is particularly appropriate for new practitioners. Each
individual practises according to his or her own ability and makes his or her
own choices and adjustment. Circumscribed practice is one of the best ways to
accumulate resources or merits in order to advance your cultivation. The most
obvious benefits of this practice are the building up of confidence and
independence, which in turn strengthens your ability to handle stress and
obstacles in life. The method itself is simple; it just requires devotion,
attention and commitment.
Group Circumscribed Practice has the benefit of combining the group's
willpower, wishes and efforts for a common goal.
For this particular Group Jie Jie, the details are as follows:
Date: From Jan 3 to Feb 20, 2008 for 49 days (Adjustment can be made to suit yourself personally)
Time: Choice of your own
Location: Choice of your own
Actual Practice/ Homework:
We highly recommend the recitation of the Ksitigarbharaja Sutra (地藏經) or Medicine Buddha Sutra (藥師經), The Heart Sutra, Meditation, Buddha's names or Mantras. Choice of your own.
Transfer of Merits:
May I transfer the merit of this Circumscribed Practice to the well being and speedy recovery of Kristen Caparan.
May all Buddhas and Dharma Protectors from the Ten directions give guidance and blessings to Kristen Caparan so that she can accumulate wisdom and fortune.
"The Supreme and endless blessings from Circumscribed Practice, I now universally transfer. May every living being, drowning and adrift, soon return to the Land of Limitless Light!"
Yours in the Dharma
